• About the Cinema

  This cinema is part of a Waitrose development that was carried out in the late 1960s and is built on the site of the original Orpheus Cinema. This was a very pleasant, typical 1930s suburban cinema with around 1,500 seats. Pictures are on display on the main entrance stairs.

  It was fitted out and operated for many years by Star Cinemas, a National company who were well known for the creation of small, multi-screen cinemas all designed in what was then the latest style, with much use of purples, illuminated stair banisters & pyschedelic screen lighting.

  Ownership passed from Star to Cannon, to MGM to ABC, then to a Mr Peter Walker until he assigned the lease to Reeltime Cinemas. They continued to operate it until February 2009 when it was acquired by Scott Cinemas.

  Some refurbishment was carried out in May 2009 to improve the retail and other areas but care was taken to retain its better late 60s features which some 40 years on give it a particular appeal.

  This is a pleasant neighbourhood cinema in an affluent part of the city which has a very loyal audience and is also enthusiastically supported by the many students in the area... a little gem that still shines!

• Facilities

  We have induction loops installed in every screen for the hard of hearing. There is no wheelchair access to the premises.
  
  Car Parking: Cinema customers may use the Waitrose car park free of charge after 5pm daily. Outside of these times there is a 1 hour minimum stay with penaltys in operation. Numerous free parking available on street.
  
  Busses: The cinema is on Bristol City FirstBus route 54A with a stop directly outside the cinema. The Wessex Connect U5 also stops here, and a stop for Service 1/1A is a five minute walk.
  
  Trains: Clifton Down and Redland railway stations within a 20 minute walk provide access to Bristol Temple Meads station.

Advance Booking

In Person. Available at the box office during opening hours, this does not incur a booking fee and is available to those who prefer to pay by cash or wish to use promotional vouchers.

By Phone. To either book via our automated system, or speak with a member of staff during opening hours, please call 0871 230 3200. We regret that staff cannot take bookings on this number. These calls cost no more than 10p/minute peak rate from a BT landline. Calls from mobile operators will vary. The booking fee by this method has a minimum charge of £1.00 for one or two tickets, and 50p/ticket after that up to a maximum of £3.50.

Online. A credit or debit card is required, and vouchers cannot be used on our web service. A charge of 75 pence per ticket booking fee is applied, to a maximum of £3.75. The booking fee for Family Group Tickets is £1.50.
